Cleaning Floors, 3 Terrific Cleaning Uses with Baking Soda

BluSky Cleaning Services Cleaning Laminate Floors

Did you know, all cleaning products are not the same? Yes, multi-purpose cleaners can be used for cleaning a variety of surfaces. But…some surfaces should be cleaned using products specifically for the type of surface. First and most important, always read the label directions for use. You’ve invested a lot in your home.

Tips for keeping your floors looking fresh:

  • Place an inside and outside mat by the door to reduce the amount of debris tracked into the home. Removing shoes at the door is also a big help.
  • Keep a pet basket by the entrance with cloth for wiping wet and dirty paws and to hold your pet’s outdoor items (leash, collar, toys, etc.).
  • Keep pet’s nails trimmed to prevent scratching the floor surface.
  • Regularly clean floors. Vacuum to remove crumbs, dust, and fine grit followed by damp mopping preferably with a microfiber flat mop to reduce the amount of water used on the floor.

When cleaning floors:

  • Vacuum with floor setting and vacuum with the grain or direction the floor is laid. This helps to pick up debris in the seams. Avoid using the roller brush which can scratch the surface.
  • Floors can be effectively cleaned with plain water. Important to damp mop to prevent the floor from excessive wetness.
  • Microfiber mop heads are effective for picking up and trapping dirt.
  • To avoid streaking change the water bucket or rinse the mop pad frequently when dirty.
  • Do call the manufacturer if you have questions about floor care recommended products. Steam cleaning wood floors is not usually recommended by floor manufacturers.
  • Before using floor products always read the product labels for the best results.

Store floor care products:

  • Store products are manufactured to minimize wetness on floors with a drying accelerator. To maintain your floors and prevent damage use a damp microfiber mop with floor cleaner.
  • Wood and Laminate Floors: Bona, Simple Green Wood & Laminate Floor Cleaner, Bruce Floor Cleaner, or manufacturer recommended products.
  • Tile or Stone: Bona tile and Stone
